As we approach the last few days before Christmas, many of us are turning our thoughts to planning the drive home. Driving to join loved ones for Christmas can be both a joyous and a stressful experience. Motorists worry about the weather, the condition of their car and the state of the roads when they finally get going. With the right preparation these concerns can be dealt with and then all you’re left with is to enjoy the drive. What better way to get yourself in the mood than to accompany your journey with some festive tunes from your Android car stereo. Of course you need to make sure that your car DVD system is in working order – without music it may be one of the longest drives of your life!

Christmas songs you can’t do without

Christmas driving songs should be fun, ideal to sing along to. Especially since it maybe the only time you can sing out aloud without attracting some strange looks on the road, because well chances are everybody else is doing it too! Here are our suggestions for the ultimate Christmas driving playlist (in no particular order):

‘Jingle Bell Rock’ Bobby Helms

What a way to start your drive, a feel good track to get you in the mood and jiggling in your seat. Released in 1958, this song is the third most-covered Christmas tune of all time.

‘Mary’s Boy Child’ – Boney M

May seem strange to have this carol done up in a disco style in 1978, but as a best selling single there are certainly some good bits.

‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ – Brenda Lee

A party is not complete without this 1958 delight. Whether it reminds you of your favourite Christmas film, Home Alone, or you enjoy the melody, your journey home will be better if this is on the driving playlist.

‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ – Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a bit of Bing. This 1949 version is great if you’ve got passengers to accompany you – especially if they are children!

‘Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)’ Darlene Love

One of the many gems on the 1963 Christmas compilation album ‘A Christmas Gift for you’. Don’t just take our word for it though – Rolling Stones magazines ranked the song first on its December 2010 list of The Greatest Rock and Roll Christmas Songs.

‘I Wish it could be Christmas Every Day’ – Wizzard

A very infectious little number that will have you singing along without a care in the world.

‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ – Slade

Some believe this 1973 track to be the most popular Christmas song of all time. It went straight to the top of charts on its release, so no Christmas playlist is credible without it.

‘Driving Home for Christmas’ – Chris Rea

If anyone understands how it feels to be driving home for Christmas, then it is Chris. Somehow the agony of standstill traffic doesn’t seem to be as bad when Chris is playing.

‘All I want for Christmas – Mariah Carey’

Whether you like Mariah Carey or not, you can’t deny that this is a Christmas classic, and it’s quite a catchy number for any car journey.

So now you know what to put on your car gps system, get your music selected, wrap up warm, and look forward to a musical drive home this Christmas, you may even feel like belting out a few tunes as you go!
